Gears are a non-renewable resource in Don't Starve Together, to help you get this rare items, we have list four useful tips. If you are interested in, please keep reading.
What is the use of Don't Starve Together Gears?
Gears can be used to build an Ice Box and a Divining Rod, as well as boost the max stats of WX-78 by simply consuming them. In the Ruins, repairing Broken Clockworks with 3 Gears will spawn a friendly damaged chess monster (Damaged Bishop, Damaged Knight, or Damaged Rook). Clockwork Knights, Clockwork Bishops, and Clockwork Rooks and their broken counterparts will not respawn, nor will graves after being dug. Therefore, Gears are a non-renewable resource in the core game.
How to get Don't Starve Together Gears?
I think the best way is to make a base in the desert and gather Tumbleweed as they go through your base. You will get plenty of Grass/Twigs at the same time which can be valuable if you have a Twiggy Tree start as well as having easy Sanity/Food with Cactuses. Biggest danger is the risk of flaming Tumbleweed in your base but if you make Flingo you should be fine.
Digging up graves is very safe but has a low chance of generating gears, much like the tumbleweeds. If you want guaranteed gear drops you'd have to fight the Clockwork monsters for them.
In a word, if there are no caves in your map, gears are kind of limited. There is a 1% chance of finding one in a tumbleweed, and you can get geras in graves, they can also be found by digging up Graves (chance of 3.07%).
Gears are Items dropped by Clockwork Knights, Clockwork Bishops and Clockwork Rooks. Gears are dropped by all of the Clockwork Mobs that can be found across The Constant in Don’t Starve and Don’t Starve Together. There are three Clockwork Mobs that can be found across The Constant, being Clockwork Knights, Clockwork Bishops and Clockwork Rooks. Each Clockwork Mob has a 100% chance to drop 2 Gears and does not have the ability to Respawn. If players have run out of live Clockwork Mobs in the overworld they can head down to the Caves to find more.
Ruins is a great method as I've read, but its hard to find them. I’ve only found the ruins once on DST, and of course this was in my early days when I didn't even know how valuable they are. I could probably find ruins if I spent 5-10 days searching, but that takes lots of time that you could spend preparing for winter or making a base.
