Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are offering a slew of legendary Pokémon for trainers to catch ’em all. But not only that, the developers revealed that players can add two mythical Pokémon—Mew and Jirachi—to their party. What’s more, they are available in both versions that have now been released on the Nintendo Switch platform. Here’s a guide on how to get Mew and Jirachi in the fourth gen remakes.
How to get Mew in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl
In order to get the 151st Pokemon Mew, you’ll need to make sure that the account you’re playing Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pear on has saved data from Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu or Pokemon Let’s go Eevee. However, unlike those games, you do not have to have owned the Poke Ball Plus in order to obtain the legendary. All you need to do is play the game long enough that you can save it, meaning if your friend has a copy, you can borrow it, play for a few minutes and then save, earning yourself a Mew.
In order to claim Mew, head to Floaroma Town, which is one of the first you’ll travel to on your journey. In a field filled with flowers, there is an old man and an old woman. Speak to the woman and she’ll comment that she has a Pokemon she wishes you to take care of. That Pokemon is Mew. That’s all you need to do in order to have one of the most versatile Pokemon in the whole series on your team.
How to get Jirachi in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl
To get the wish-granting Jirachi, players must have a save on their Switch for either Pokémon Sword or Shield. Talk to the old man, and he'll give the player Jirachi after alluding to the Pokémon's powers. A Steel/Psychic-type, Jirachi debuted in the third generation of Pokémon games and is said to only wake up every thousand years. Jirachi does not have any evolutions.
Those aren't the only free mythical Pokemon that Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl players can get. Everyone who purchases a copy of either game before Feb. 21, 2022 will be able to receive a free Manaphy egg via the Mystery Gift function. You can also catch older legendary Pokemon in the games through a brand-new facility called Ramanas Park.
After Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, Pokemon Legends: Arceus will launch for Switch on Jan. 28. It, too, has an extra bonus for Sword and Shield players. Everyone who has Sword or Shield save data on their console will be able to get the mythical Pokemon Shaymin in Pokemon Legends, as well as a Shaymin kimono set for their trainers. Players with Let's Go save data will also receive a Pikachu and Eevee trainer mask.
