In latest update of Minecraft, there comes a brand new mob to play with -- bees! Blocky honey bees have officially arrived, and now you can use the sweet stuff to cure poisoning or create some funky new blocks. In this article, we will introduce all we know about the mods, how to find bees & get honey, honeycomb, beehives and more.
How to find Minecraft bees?
Minecraft bees are a neutral mob, which means that they're nice and chilled: they’ll simply fly around the area near their homes to collect pollen before returning back to their nests. Minecraft bee nests are naturally occurring blocks that serve as a bee's home, and you can find them hanging from oak and birch trees in plains, sunflower plains, and the flower forest biomes. The more trees there are, the higher your chances of finding a Minecraft bee nest.
How to Get Honey?
To get honey in Minecraft, you’ll need to harvest it from a beehive or bee nest. These will only be ready for you to harvest once enough bees have returned to the nest with pollen. Each beehive houses three bees. Each bee will leave one at a time during the day, flying around and pollinating different flowers. When they’ve done this, their appearance will change and they’ll soon return to their beehive. Once this has happened five times, you’ll notice that the beehive looks a little different. It will be literally dripping with honey.
Honeycomb and Honey: What are they used for?
Both Honey and Honeycomb are used in very different ways. There’s reason to believe they’ll be used in more crafting recipes later on, but for now, it’s a case of one begets the other. Honey, when bottled, makes for a quick and tasty treat. Just like a potion, you can drink Honey from the bottle to reap its benefits, although it’s just another kind of food. It’s pretty good at what it does, but given you can’t stack them, they won’t beat the usefulness of other, rarer consumables. You can even turn Honey into Sugar!
How to Craft a Beehive?
Nests can be sheared for honeycombs, and the process can be automated with a dispenser rather than using shears manually. That's an important process, because you can now craft your own beehives using this recipe: Planks x3, Honeycomb x3, Planks x3. Besides shearing for honeycombs, hives and nests are used to gather honey by placing a dispenser or bottle against the block.
