We all know that hero selection, item building, and correct use of skills are key factors in League of Legends, but rune selection is equally important. By selecting these runes, you can increase your health, defense, speed and attack power, and even bring certain negative effects to the enemy. However, when players log in to their League of Legends Accounts, they will find that rune customization is so complex that many players don’t know how to choose runes. Here's everything you need to know about League of Legends' rune system, including an overview of the runes, and descriptions of some Keystone Runes.
Runes Overview of League of Legends
League of Legends runes are divided into five different pathways including Precision, Domination, Sorcery, Resolve and Inspiration. Each focuses on a unique aspect of gameplay.
Precision runes can be used to enhance assaults and long-term damage. The precision runes are most suited for shooter characters or heroes who rely on standard attack output, such as Ashe, Vayne, and others. Domination brings burst damage and target access. Domination runes are mainly suitable for heroes with burst damage such as assassins, mages, and warriors. The role of Sorcery is to enhance capabilities and resource manipulation so it is the best choice for some expendable mages or supports like Lux and Zyra. Resolve refers to durable shield and restoration which is needed by Tank heroes and heavy warriors. The last one is Inspiration which refers to creative tools and rule-breaking. Generally speaking, Inspiration runes are suitable for support heroes.
Lesser Runes and Keystone Runes are subsidiary subcategories found within these particular rune paths. Players must choose between a Primary Path, which requires them to take one Keystone Rune and three Lesser Runes, and a Secondary Path, which requires them to take two Lesser Runes and three shard slots, in order to make a Rune Page.
Descriptions of Some Keystone Runes
Precision
Press the Attack: Basic attacks that hit enemy champions add a stack for four seconds, which is refreshed on consecutive attacks and can stack up to three times. The attack deals additional adaptive damage and exposes the target for eight seconds. While Exposed, they suffer 8% more damage from all sources for six seconds.
Domination
Dark Harvest: When a champion is injured to less than 50% of their maximum health, Dark Harvest's damage is permanently increased by five and they also suffer adaptive damage and soul harvesting. After a champion takedown, this cannot occur again for 45 seconds, with the clock reset to 1.5 seconds.
Sorcery
Arcane Comet: It has the ability to damage a champion by launching a destructive comet at their location.
Summon Aery: Aery is delivered to a target by your assaults and abilities, harming adversaries or protecting allies.
Resolve
Grasp of the Undying: Every 4 seconds, your next attack against a champion deals extra magic damage, heals you, and restores your health.
Aftershock: You gain a static Armor and Magic Resist stat for 2.5 seconds when you immobilize an opponent champion. You unleash a shockwave that causes adaptive damage in a 350-unit radius after the period.
Inspiration
Glacial Augment: Three glacial rays are sent out when an enemy champion is immobilized, which can slow them and any other enemy champion that enters the icy area. Those enemies also suffer a 15% reduction in damage.
