miHoYo is going to relase a new character in Genshin Impact, who is based on the Chinese waifu Fu Hua from Honkai Impact 3rd. But the new character is called Yelan in Genshin Impact instead of Fu Hua.

WHO IS FU HUA?

Popular Genshin Impact data miner Dimbreath shared on Twitter a new screenshot of a mysterious female character. The screenshot is from an upcoming Genshin Impact Story Cutscene, to be revealed with the Moonchase Festival Event. Later on, Uncle Uba, another prolific leaker, revealed this new character is named Yelan.

As Uncle Uba and several fans pointed out, Yelan looks strikingly similar to Fu Hua, a character in Honkai Impact 3rd. In the game’s story, Fu Hua actually is immortal and is one of the survivors of the Previous Era, the past civilization that was destroyed by the Honkai 50,000 years ago.

Partly because she’s Chinese, but also because she’s super cute, Fu Hua is one of the most popular characters among the Honkai Chinese player base. So it’s not surprising to see a character based on her will be appearing in Genshin Impact, and these new Fu Hua / Yelan leaks confirm this.

What is Genshin Impact Yelan Release Date?

At the moment, we’re not sure when you’ll be able to play as Yelan in Genshin Impact, though of course Fu Hua is available in Honkai Impact 3rd right now. We do know that the leaked cutscene she appeared in was for the Moonchase Festival, which will take place in Liyue Harbor sometime soon – so we can only hope she will become available in Genshin Impact 2.2.

What role will Yelan play?

We don’t yet know how Yelan will fit into the Genshin Impact story, but there are some theories out there. One theory is that Yelan is a younger Madame Ping. This is based primarily on that Yelan seems to be holding the Cleansing Bell. Another theory suggests Yelan is the human form of the Adeptus known as Cloud Retainer. If the video is to be trusted, Cloud Retainer has a color scheme similar to Yelan’s.

Is Yelan related to Xingqiu?

On another hand, several fans believe that Yelan comes from the Guhua clan. This is because her stance and outfits are very alike to Xingqiu’s. Apart from that, the Guhua clan not only had Sword techniques as used by Xingqiu but also Polearm manner.
