How to Choose the Best Classes to Play in WoW Classic Season of Discovery
Warrior
Warriors are big, burly, tough, and can pack a punch. As a Warrior, you use the toughest armor in the game, mail armor (and later Plate armor), and wield large, powerful melee weapons. In a group, you often have to take on the role of Tank. This means that it is your job to charge in first and draw the attention of all enemies while your group members focus on killing them.
In the early days of WoW, Warriors were arguably the only reliable tanks. Sure, Druids could tank a bit in their bear form, and Paladins could tank some early dungeons, but ultimately, every serious group needed a warrior at the center. While Warriors do a lot of damage, taking damage is arguably more important for a warrior because of their tough armor. In PvP, Warriors are often flag carriers for the same reason. Of course, you could also focus on dealing with damage while sacrificing some of your defense, which is also good for PvP.
Shaman
Shamans, like Rogues and Warlocks, are now able to play a role that wasn't available to them in vanilla WoW: Tank. Thanks to a decent suite of new Tanking Runes, and others that empower the Shaman's other specs, Shamans are generally in a better place than before.
However, also like Druids, Shamans are good at a lot of things but not truly great at any one. It's true that Shaman tanking is far from the worst in SoD, and they make for decent healers now, too. But their DPS output leaves a lot to be desired. Shamans are easy to level and relatively easy to play, but at endgame, they can have a hard time topping meters.
Choose Shaman for its class fantasy, the ability to do any role in a Dungeon, but don't mind being slightly outperformed by more empowered classes in SoD.
Hunter
The Hunter is currently the best class to play for Damage in Season of Discovery. It is exceptionally good for leveling because in WoW Classic, most classes really struggle with mana sustain early on. Hunters don’t have a reliance on mana, so it really gives them the edge in how quickly they can level and complete quests. Hunters also have the ability to get a variety of pets they can make excellent use of. From using them to tank enemies to helping with damage, pets add a lot of damage and utility for Hunters at these levels.
Hunters have some very powerful new Season of Discovery Runes that really amp up their DPS and will make them hard to compete with in damage output in Dungeons and the level 25 raid content. Being ranged and not constrained by mana, Hunters will likely be the dominant DPS class for the next few Season of Discovery updates as well.
Warlock
The Warlock class stands out as a versatile option. They can be a powerful caster, and they can also be a formidable tank. Their new Talent, Metamorphosis, offers increased armor, threat generation, and critical hit immunity. It enables them to step into tanking roles within dungeons and raids effectively. Furthermore, spells like Shadow Bolt and Chaos Bolt solidify the Warlock’s position as a top-tier caster.
Warlocks are leaning into a rune package emphasizing fire damage through spells like Chaos Bolt and Incinerate. While the potential to surpass Mage DPS remains uncertain, Fire Warlocks are poised to be competitive, possibly even surpassing Shadow Locks in damage output.
Warlock Tanks offer a unique but somewhat uncertain choice. It’s considered one of the less effective tanks alongside Rogues. In SoD, Metamorphosis becomes a permanent ability with a charge and AoE taunt. Despite a substantial 500% increase in armor, their ability to reduce damage falls short, making them vulnerable to significant harm. While their threat generation is decent, they lack the defensive strengths seen in other tanking classes.
We just list four best classes for players to select in this guidance. And you can also choose other classes to start playing WoW Classic SOD. We hope that you can build the best character in the game. And you may need WoW Classic Season of Discovery Gold to find good gears and equip with characters.
