Dota 2's pinnacle event, The International Invitational, is coming up in 2024. The event will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark in September, and a total of 16 teams will qualify for the competition. Six teams have already secured their spots through direct invitations thanks to their performances over the past year, but there are still 10 spots left for aspiring teams through regional closed qualifiers. Here’s what you need to know about the Dota 2 TI 2024 closed qualifiers.
What is Dota 2 TI 2024?
The Dota 2 TI 2024, also known as The International 2024, is an annual championship tournament for the popular multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game Dota 2, developed by Valve Corporation. The International is considered the pinnacle of competitive Dota 2, featuring the best teams from around the world competing for a substantial prize pool, which often reaches tens of millions of dollars due to contributions from the Dota 2 community through the sale of in-game items. However, Valve has adjusted the way it crowdfunds prizes, and now the cash prizes offered by the event are less impressive. This doesn’t mean that the event is any less exciting in a competitive sense. There are still many teams that take pride in participating in this tournament and winning well. All teams are fighting for the Aegis.
In addition to the 6 teams directly invited to participate in the competition, there are 10 remaining seats that require teams to participate in the qualifiers in various regions to obtain. These spots are allocated to the major regions: Western Europe, Eastern Europe, China, North America, South America, and Southeast Asia. No team wants to miss out on TI, the greatest tournament in Dota's glorious circuit. I believe that the inspiring spirit of these teams will make you love this game even more. Qualified Teams for Dota 2 TI 2024
Invited Teams
● Team Spirit
● Xtreme Gaming
● Team Falcons
● Team Liquid
● Gaimin Gladiators
● BetBoom Team
The teams are invited based on their performance in events throughout the year, with teams that perform well in major events receiving higher rankings. Team Spirit has been invited as the defending champions and hopes to get their third Aegis. If successful, they will be the first team in Dota history to win three consecutive championships. However, the strength of Team Falcons should not be underestimated. This team has dominated almost the entire season, so it is clear that its chances of winning the championship are also very high. Xtreme Gaming was the only Eastern team to make the cut, while top 2023 teams Gaimin Gladiators and Team Liquid also survived the grueling 2024 schedule. BetBoom finished sixth.
Regional Qualifiers
● Western Europe: Entity and Tundra Esports
Entity and Tundra advanced from the qualifiers, overcoming PSG Quest and NAVI Junior.
● Eastern Europe: 1win
Nothing could prevent 1win from securing the sole Eastern European TI qualifier spot. They earned their place at TI by defeating strong teams such as Night Pulse and NAVI along the way.
● China: G2 x iG and Team Zero
Similar to Shopify, Azure Ray failed to secure their spot at TI, losing both qualification opportunities to Team Zero and G2 x iG. G2's Chinese Dota squad has frequently appeared at LAN events this year, whereas Team Zero, Xtreme Gaming's second team, has not yet participated in a major tournament outside of China.
● North America: Nouns
Nouns haven't made a significant impact in the top-tier events they've participated in this year, but they've established themselves as the top team in their region by winning consecutive qualifiers against Shopify for both the Riyadh Masters and TI 2024.
● South America: Heroic and Beastcoast
Much debate surrounded the decision to allocate two TI spots to South America, but following an exhilarating Dota qualifier, HEROIC and beastcoast will now represent the region in Copenhagen.
● Southeast Asia: Talon Esports and Aurora
Talon secured their spot by defeating Aurora in the Upper Bracket Final, while Aurora had to compete for a spot against TNC Predator.
