The Ancient Guanyin Temple is a hidden area in Chapter 1 of Black Myth: Wukong, specifically within Black Wind Mountain. This guide will help you access the temple, find the three bells, and defeat the secret boss, Elder Jinchi, who guards a magical item crucial for overcoming the Black Wind King.
Accessing the Ancient Guanyin Temple
You must find and ring the three large bells scattered on Black Wind Mountain to reach the Guanyin Ancient Temple. You can ring them in any order, but ringing the third bell will transport you to the secret area, which you can fast travel to later. Here’s where to find each bell:
1. Forest of Wolves: Start at the Outside the Forest Shrine and take the left path leading to a higher road. Cross the rope bridge over the stream, and continue straight to encounter an optional Yaoguai Chief named Guangzhi, who drops the Red Tides Transformation Spell. The first bell is located at the far end of this arena.
2. Bamboo Grove: At the end of the Snake Trail, just before the Marsh of the White Mists, you’ll face another Yaoguai Chief, Guangmou, who can summon snakes. After defeating him, head right to the next Shrine, or take the stairs to the left to find the second bell.
3. Marsh of the White Mists: After a brief encounter with the character boss, the Whiteclad Noble, look for a path to the left instead of heading directly into Black Wind Cave. You’ll find a large plaza where several Wolf Guai are gathered around a wolf hanging from a tree. The final bell is located just beyond them.
Entering the Ancient Guanyin Temple
Once you ring all three bells, you’ll be transported back in time to an earlier version of the Guanyin Temple, likely shortly after it was set ablaze. Although it resembles the area where you previously fought the Yaoguai King, Lingxuzi, you’ll discover new items at the entrance. Be sure to activate the shrine in the entrance plaza and explore the area before going inside. Near the other withered tree, you’ll find three chests containing valuable items: Will, Yarn, Stone Spirit, and Guanyin’s Prayer Beads arm gear.
Additionally, the Keeper's Shrine in this secret area offers a unique selection of items for purchase, which are rare at this stage of the game, making it worthwhile to stock up. Yaoguai King Boss Battle - Elder Jinchi
Step 1: If you’ve battled the Wandering Wight, you’ll have a good idea of what to expect from Elder Jinchi, as he shares many of the same moves. However, he hits harder and can enhance certain attacks, so be prepared for a challenge. Make sure to upgrade your staff after defeating the Whiteclad Noble to maximize your damage output, and consider using the Wandering Wight’s Spirit to gain an advantage.
Step 2: During the fight, you’ll notice wandering bronze-colored corpses in the arena. You can defeat these corpses with a single swipe of your staff, absorbing their spirits to heal yourself slightly. While you shouldn’t turn your back on Jinchi, there will be moments when you can safely hit a nearby corpse to regain health during his tremor and earthquake attacks.
Step 3: Jinchi has several powerful moves, including spinning attacks that can be difficult to judge, stomp attacks, and a palm blast wave that he enhances by summoning the wandering spirits. Be cautious and time your dodges carefully. He can also create shockwaves by slamming his fist down, which can erupt the ground multiple times. This is a good opportunity to immobilize him and deal damage before he can execute his attack.
Step 4: As the battle progresses and Jinchi loses health, he will become enraged, accusing you of stealing treasure and commanding his followers to attack. At this point, the previously harmless corpses will become a threat, glowing as they chase you. They move slowly and will explode after a moment, so lead them away and avoid their blasts before returning to fight Jinchi.
Step 5: When Jinchi’s health drops to about half, he will teleport to the center of the arena and hover out of reach while the corpses reappear. If any reach him, he will absorb them and regain health. You must quickly defeat the wandering bodies to steal their health before he can. Conserve your stamina by using quick attacks and sprinting around the arena.
Step 6: Continue to deny Jinchi opportunities to heal while avoiding his attacks. Save your Red Tides transformation spell for right after his healing segment to maximize your effectiveness against the corpses.
Get Bonus Items
After defeating Elder Jinchi, you’ll be transported back to the third bell in the Marsh of the White Mist. You can then interact with the Wolf Guai hanging from the tree, turning it to dust and earning the Fireproof Mantle Vessel and 2,000 Will. Vessels are rare items that provide passive bonuses and can be activated when you build up Ki from attacking enemies. The Fireproof Mantle is particularly useful, as it negates fire damage, which will be beneficial against the final boss of this chapter.
