In the early of this year, there occurs coronavirus. It seems to be spreading at an alarming rate around the world. Due to Coronavirus, the developer of Path of Exile 2 is deciding to delay the Beta of this gameply.
The reason for this potential delay is the infamous coronavirus. And more specifically, the impact of the disease on Asian developers who support the studio. Grinding Gear Games likes to use the help of outside studios from China, around 30 people. The problem is that after Chinese New Year's celebrations, these devs were banned from returning to their offices due to the COVID-19 coronavirus. As a result, the New Zealand team was delayed for several weeks and had to move some of their employees to the group working on the Delirium DLC. This was at the expense of the development of Path of Exile 2, but it was deemed necessary - the expansion is scheduled for March 13, while the "sequel" is a matter of more distant future.
"Our initial estimate was to start some early beta testing in late 2020," Grinding Gear Games’ co-founder Chris Wilson told. "But we’re going to revise that estimate as we approach it to make sure that things are ready enough for community feedback. Rushing it out won’t benefit anyone, we believe!"
As for what has disturbed the ongoing development of Path of Exile 2? Wilson revealed that it has to do with the coronavirus outbreak. Grinding Gear Games outsources work to developers sitting in Asia. Due to the epidemic, the developers abroad were told to not go back to work for safety reasons. This forced Grinding Gear Games to pull staffers off Path of Exile 2 for the upcoming Delirium expansion pack.
“This caused several weeks of delay, and while we shuffled stuff around so that it didn’t affect our current Delirium expansion, it has shunted our Path of Exile 2 schedule a little bit. As it’s a long-term project with a ‘release it when it’s ready’ policy, this isn’t a big concern for us yet, but we will need to keep an eye on the schedule.”
In addition to the coronavirus effects, Grinding Gear Games wants to structure the beta in a way where the community can be helpful with feedback. Pushing it ahead of schedule will only prove counter-productive, according to some of their recent statements. Yes, it’s not what Path of Exile fans were hoping to hear — but the sequel’s beta looks to be worth the wait. Everything we know about the game is painting an amazing picture. For example, a new seven-act storyline is being added to the sequel. It should give fans an epic adventure to look forward too, hopefully with plot twists and surprises around every turn.
