What’s the Salvage in Star Citizen?
Similar to mining, Salvage is also a job that requires you to extract a bunch of materials, collect them inside your ship's storage space, and then sell them in the open market. However, there are some meaningful differences between the tasks you do and the amount of money you earn from Salvage compared to mining.
How to Salvage in Star Citizen
To start salvaging, you need to approach a ship and enter the salvage mode or take control of the salvage operator seat, just like in mining. This activates a new heads-up display (HUD) that shows you important information while using the salvage modules.
Once you start scraping the ship’s hull, it automatically transfers the materials to the dedicated cargo hold. At this point, another player must move the boxes from the machines into the hold.
You can also use the multi-tool to salvage ships at a slower rate. However, you can then use the salvaged materials to repair your ship or help out your allies who may have sustained damage in battle. However, the multi-tool needs to be created from salvaging in the first place, but it is a little costly.
Best Ships for Salvage in Star Citizen
The Aegis Reclaimer is currently the main ship in the game used for salvaging. This is a sub-capital ship that requires multi-crew gameplay to be most effective, this is due to it having two separate salvage operators that don't directly pilot the ship.
The cargo storage on the Reclaimer is huge allowing for a team to head out in to the verse and stay salvaging for long period of time to maximize profits. The storage area will need an additional crew member to move the salvaged material into the hold for new material to be claimed.
When considering all roles (related to salvaging) the Reclaimer requires 4 crew to work effectively. This doesn't include the turret operators that may be needed to fend off any enemies trying to steal the precious cargo.
Where to Sell Salvaged Material in Star Citizen
Now that you have enough salvaged material in your cargo hold, you can head to a Trade Development Division (TDD) in any major city to sell the containers. Lorville, Area 18, Orison, and New Babbage all have a TDD building. Once you land in a city, you can Store your ship via a Fleet Manager terminal and then head to the TDD building. Interact with a TDD terminal, select your ship that contains the cargo, and sell the material.
Salvaging is a quite profitable job in Star Citizen despite the fact that it requires an initial payment. If you can find crashed or abandoned ships without claiming a contract, you will gain even more profit. Sometimes, players just start to salvage their own ships, as you can salvage any ship with its shields turned off. However, this kind of salvage doesn't give you much material compared to the ones you acquire through contracts.
Players who are tired of mining can choose to salvage in Star Citizen Alpha 3.19. And if you are going to upgrade your spaceship, you can Buy Star Citizen UEC to select right materials for your ship. Upgraded ship will help you complete longer space journey in the game.
