Torchlight Frontiers has changed its name to Torchlight 3, this short article will introduce Torchlight 3 Release Date, Future and Platforms.
The History
As far as Torchlight goes, its success lies on its own journey. Originally developed by Runic Games, the franchise stood tall against giants in the hack-n-slash RPG genre, proving that not all titles have to be grim and bloody to be fun. After two successful additions to the franchise, Runic Games’ doors closed, leaving the games high up in the air. That’s where Echtra Games took the responsibility and created Torchlight Frontiers, a free-to-play spiritual successor to the series. After the first Alpha period, the team took fans’ feedback into consideration, making the change to Torchlight 3. We couldn’t be happier about that decision.
Torchlight 3 Release Date
Torchlight 3 will be releasing on PC at some point in 2020! The game will release on console "shortly after" the PC version, but there's no exact dates/times for either version at the moment. If a date is revealed, we'll update this guide with the exact information. Beta is equally as mysterious, with only the "soon" label being placed upon it.
Torchlight 3 Platforms
Torchlight 3 will be released on PC only via Steam for the time being. The options seem almost organic, as Steam’s audience find them in earlier games. Torchlight 1 and 2 are both available on consoles but are not as widely accepted as on PCs. A later console was released but no mention was made as to whether all consoles would be included or not.
The Changes
According to the devs, the game now follows a structure that sticks close to the original's style. The big change with Torchlight III is that it's lessening the focus for online-play. While you can still play it online with friends and other players, you will also be able to play the game offline. When you are online, most zones will be set to private, letting you explore at your own pace in solitude. Along with this change to the game's online requirement, the pricing model has also been revised. With the shift to a premium model, the game's real-money store will be removed.
Previously, Torchlight Frontiers was a free-to-play game that was set to launch on the Arc store. However, now that Perfect World has decided to make some big changes, they’ve thrown that business plan out the window. As revealed in the video, Torchlight 3 will be a fully-featured, premium release. That means you’ll pay one price and get all the content in the game. No nickel-and-diming here. It also means that the game will move to Steam instead of the Arc store. That should make it much easier for Torchlight 3 to bring in players, as there are still tons of people who only want to play PC games on Steam.
