Best DPS Classes to Start in the Beginning of WoW Classic Season of Discovery
Hunter
The Hunter is currently the best class to play for Damage in Season of Discovery. It is exceptionally good for leveling because in WoW Classic, most classes really struggle with mana sustain early on. Hunters don’t have a reliance on mana, so it really gives them the edge in how quickly they can level and complete quests. Hunters also have the ability to get a variety of pets they can make excellent use of. From using them to tank enemies to helping with damage, pets add a lot of damage and utility for Hunters at these levels.
Hunters have some very powerful new Season of Discovery Runes that really amp up their DPS and will make them hard to compete with in damage output in Dungeons and the level 25 raid content. Being ranged and not constrained by mana, Hunters will likely be the dominant DPS class for the next few Season of Discovery updates as well.
Retribution Paladin
Retribution Paladins have possibly the strongest runes out of any class in Season of Discovery. The addition of core rotational abilities, a new seal, and other potentially game changing buffs has brought them straight to the top of the tier list. Paladins are also one of the few classes that has access to their strongest cooldowns at level 25, making Retribution quite an attractive choice for both PvP and PvE in Season of Discovery.
Warlock
Emerging as one of the game's most formidable ranged DPS classes, Warlocks deliver staggering raw damage output with a slew of enticing new spells tailored to various playstyles in the Season of Discovery. The removal of the debuff limit grants Warlocks the freedom to liberally apply DoT effects, a potent strategy even at level 25. Crucially, their ability, Life Tap, offers a remarkable advantage at a time when mana conservation is a pressing concern for many classes. With an array of new playstyles at their disposal, Warlock is currently WoW SoD best class in the category of ranged DPS.
Mage
Mages need no introduction for Classic WoW players, and they have been able to retain their spot at the top of the damage tree alongside Hunters. There are a couple of grossly overpowered Rune options in Arcane Blast and Arcane Surge, with the latter able to address potential issues with mana usage thanks to its temporary 300% increase in regeneration.
Arcane talents are playing a significant part in successful Mage builds in the first phase, and further utility from Runes like Enlightenment and Burnout see the class hit the very top of the meters. Mages are undoubtedly more potent than in regular Classic WoW, and that’s a frightening prospect for any potential opponent.
Feral Druid
While Feral Druids may normally be an off-meta spec, they have some very real strengths in Season of Discovery. While Ferals do not have the required items and tools for their power-shifting playstyle that is utilized in the late game, Season of Discovery has given Ferals some attractive new spells and buffs that will make them a staple in most groups. Most notably, Ferals are the only way for Alliance groups to get access to Windfury Totem, which is melee's most desired buff. Ferals still have some strong single target damage on their own and are going to be strong at level 25, but the addition of critical raid buffs makes them highly sought after.
