Neverwinter is a free-to-play massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed by Cryptic Studios and released by Perfect World Entertainment for PC in 2013, Xbox One in 2015, and PS4 in 2016. Based on the fictional Forgotten Realms city of Neverwinter from Dungeons & Dragons, Neverwinter is a standalone game and not part of the previous Neverwinter Nights series. Players can become one of eight Dungeons & Dragons character classes and form groups of up to five player characters (PCs). Neverwinter was originally based on a modified version of the Dungeons & Dragons 4th edition rules set. This includes the use of healing powers and action points, the latter of which is implemented through a system referred to as dailies, allowing a player to perform a special ability by accumulating enough action points through combat. A player-created content system codenamed "Foundry" allows players to create their own stories and quests.
Neverwinter employs many types of currency for various purposes. Copper, Silver, and Gold - the basic currency obtainable almost everywhere. 100 Copper = 1 Silver. 100 Silver = 1 Gold. Astral Diamonds - special "time gated" currency obtained through limited means such as diety prayer by a campfire every hour once level 16 is obtained. Also from special daily quests given in most areas. Zen - the in-game proxy for real-life currency. Zen facilitates Neverwinter's Free-to-Play model. It can also be obtained wih a A.D. to Zen exchange of 1 Zen to 389 A.D. and varies from there. Ardent Coins - Obtainable through invocation and spent through a special interface. Used to purchase certain types of seals which are then used to purchase equipment between certain levels. Celestial Coins - Obtainable through invocation and spent through a special interface. Decays over time. Can be used to purchase pointless party poppers or if lucky enough a pack of items that are useful enough like theiving kits etc. Seals - Special currency obtained by killing bosses in Dungeon Delves or by turning in insignias. Tarmalune Trade Bars - Special currency only obtainable from Nightmare Lockboxes.
