Big Changes in Overwatch 2
Free to Play and New Battle Pass in Overwatch 2
Overwatch 2's most substantial change is that it is free to play with microtransactions. This was one of the largest reasons for the development of Overwatch 2 in the first place, and it's possibly the biggest indicator that this really is a new era of Overwatch. Now, Blizzard will get their money not from the game purchase, but from in-game microtransactions and purchases of Overwatch 2's brand new Battle Pass.
As you'd expect, Overwatch 2's Battle Pass is filled with cosmetics which unlock as you play matches and progress through the Battle Pass's 80 levels. Crucially, however, players who never played Overwatch 1 will only start with 15 out of the 33 total heroes unlocked, and will need to unlock the rest via the Battle Pass. Returning players from Overwatch 1 will have all heroes unlocked by default except for Kiriko, who must be obtained via the Battle Pass for everyone.
5V5 Multiplayer Mode
One of the biggest changes Blizzard is making with Overwatch 2 is how many players will be in a given match. Where the original Overwatch offered multiplayer matches with two teams of six players, Overwatch 2 instead pits two teams of five against each other. This breaks up teams into one tank, two damage dealers, and two support characters.
New Maps
The Overwatch 2 comes with many new components. The integration between multiple old and new maps is key to the success of matches. In Overwatch 1, the community can vividly remember some maps, such as Paris and Lunar Colony, that would have people leave the match just so they wouldn’t have to play on that map. Overwatch 2 took away the 2CP maps so maps like Hanamura, Anubis, Volskaya, Paris, and Lunar Colony are out of the map pool. In Overwatch 2 there is an addition of the game mode of Push that comes with two brand new maps of New Queen Street and Colosseo. There was also an addition of new maps of old game modes such as Midtown and Circuit Royal.
New Heroes in Overwatch 2
New heroes other than Junker Queen have also appeared, with the damage category adding Sojourn, while support players have gained Kiriko. Sojourn is best seen as a damage-dealing Zarya, or a leaping Soldier 76 who also has the same headshot damage power as Widowmaker, though typically she needs to be at a closer range. Her railgun is extremely powerful and is even more so when charged up, which can be done by dealing damage to enemies.
Kiriko, the newest ninja hero with relations to Genji and Hanzo, plays a bit like Zenyatta when aiming her kunai. The Overwatch 2 developers have stated that she's meant to appeal to DPS players while also being able to keep her allies up with Healing Ofuda and Protection Suzu. Her ultimate, Kitsune Rush, is being well-received for the most part, as its speed boost and health buffs can be extremely influential at the right time.
Besides these apparent changes in Overwatch 2, some skills of heroes are also changed in this game. If you are novice players of Overwatch 2, you can Buy Overwatch 2 Coins to unlock more different heroes. And you can experiment different heroes and find your desired ones in the match.
