Originally launched in 2006, the Roblox platform hit 100 million monthly active users in August. The mobile version of the platform first debuted on iOS devices in 2012 and has gone on to be downloaded 290 million times across Android and Apple devices.
Back in September 2015, the Roblox Corporation was preparing to launch its user-generated online gaming platform for Xbox One, another step in its broad strategy to reach as many platforms as possible. Today, Roblox is available on mobile, console, PC and in virtual reality, attracting more than 48 million active players every month, and surpassing 1 million concurrent users at peak times.
Although it has been released for more than 10 years, Roblox has continued to grow rapidly in recent years. In April this year, the number of monthly live players for the game reached 90 million. In other words, in just 4 months, the number of monthly live players in Roblox has increased by 10 million. At the same time, players spend more than 1 billion hours playing games on the platform every month, and the total number of game levels created by players is more than 50 million.
In May, Roblox Mobile global revenue was estimated at $ 36 million, compared to only $ 24 million in the same period last year. In other words, the game averaged nearly $ 1.2 million a day in May this year, compared to about $ 774,000 in May last year. In contrast, Microsoft's "Minecraft" has generated approximately $ 500 million in revenue from the App Store and Google Play since 2014, and "Roblox" has 50% more mobile revenue than the former.
Roblox is published by Roblox Corporation. The report shows that "Roblox" has been downloaded 290 million times in the global App Store and Google Play. Of its $ 1 billion in total revenue, $ 677 million (67%) came from the United States and $ 89 million (9%) came from the United Kingdom.
According to Sensor Tower, in 2018, Roblox ’s total mobile revenue was US $ 335 million, a six-fold increase from 2016 ’s US $ 45.7 million. Since 2019, Roblox's mobile revenue has reached US $ 435 million, which has increased by 30% compared to the full year of 2018.
